Festivals & Events 2008

JUNE

13th -15th June: Download Festival. Donnington Park, Leicestershire. Big festival of the best Metal and Rock acts.

27th - 29th June: Glastonbury Festival. Shepton Mallet, Somerset. Expect around 2,000 performances at 25 or so venues, with a wide variety of top contemporary music

JULY

11th - 13th July: T in the Park. Balado, Scotland. Scotland’s biggest festival with around 150 live acts and DJs on about 10 stages. Tickets sell like hot-cakes.

25th - 27th July: WOMAD festival. Charlton Park, Wiltshire. A fesitval of world music arts and dance with an unbeatable atmosphere.

16th - 20th July: LARMER TREE Festival. Mostly folk and world music, plus roots, blues, jaz, reggae and more. Also plenty of workshops, therapy sessions and street theatre. A chilled festival set in gorgeous Victorianpleasure gardens.

25th - 26th July: The WICKERMAN Festival. Set in 120 acres of isolated farmland in Galloway, Scotland. Two main stages hosting loads of bands and other intersting acts like 'fire dancers'. Famous for it's 25ft Wickerman!

AUGUST

8th - 10th August: Endorse - It in Dorset. Held on a beautiful site overlooking Cranbourne Chase in Dorset. Lots of music like ska, dub and punk. Plenty of stalls, fancy dress, comedy, healing area and Tipi hire. Old style festival at an affordableprice.

15th - 17th August: Beautiful Days: This festival features music, street theatre, arts, crafts and plenty of stalls. The festival has a real community spirit and is fastly becoming one of the most talked about festivals in the UK.

22nd - 24th August: Shambala: This must-go festival is a vibrant and creative musical extraveganza, held in the grounds of a beautiful estate in the Midlands. Enjoy quirky music, fancy dress on the Saturday night, a magical location, wonderful characters and much, much more! See www.shambalafestival.org for further information.

FESTIVALS IN EUROPE

APRIL

TignesFest: 17th-20th April, Tignes, France. A dynamic new alpine music event to be held at a top rated ski resort, Tignes.TignesFest is a musical cocktail showcasing the freshest talent out there today.

MAY

Rocket Festival: 16th-18th May, Andalucian Mountains, Near Granada, Spain. The Rocket Festival is a celebration of life and alternative culture. Lots of fun and music set in a beautiful, rural and sun drenched site.

Carnival of Cultures: 9th to 12th of May, Berlin, Germany. This splendid 4-day street festival celebrates Berlin’s multicultural spirit.

Cannes Film Festival: 14th-25th May, Cannes, France. The Cannes Film Festival is the world’s most prestigious film festival. Spot the stars and watch some fabulous films.

JUNE

Midsummers Eve: 23rd June. Oslo, Norway. Celebrations for the longest day of the year!

JULY

Love Parade: Check the web to see if it will run this year. Last year it was cancelled but they hope to revive it this year. Berlin is the usual venue.

AUGUST

International Beer Festival: 1st­3rd August, Berlin, Germany. The first weekend in August transforms the street with over a mile of stalls offering 1200 types of beer from over 180 brewers across Germany.

Amsterdam Gay Pride: 31st July-4th August, Amsterdam, Netherlands. Street parties, club circuit parties and generally lots of wild times. The famous Canal Parade is held on the Saturday.

La Tomatina: 27th August, Buñol, Spain. The world’s biggest food-throwing party, with around 20,000 people flinging 90,000 pounds of tomatoes.
