| Best known as the backdrop to Gilbert and Sullivans Pirates of Penzance, this Cornish town is a wonderful place to visit whatever the season. Set on the glorious shores of Mounts Bay, Penzance is only ten miles from Lands End and a short ferry ride to the Isles of Scilly. Whether youre looking to meander through the market-town, saunter past Regency and Georgian terraces, be inspired by cliff-top walks, or simply enjoy the beach in the sun drenched summer, the town has plenty in store for you. With museums, theatres, art galleries, independent shops, bars, cafés all close at hand, youre sure to find an enjoyable way to while away your day. The Egyptian House, one of the most intriguing charms in this town, can be found at the top of the historic Chapel Street. It is said to be inspired by the Temple of Hat-hor at Dendra in Egypt and was built in 1835 during the national craze for Egyptology. Though it fell into a state of disrepair in the late 1960s, the building was restored to its original splendour in 1973 and is still a sight to behold with its ornate columns and cornices. by Liam Tullberg don't miss out! - Golowan Festival: 22nd-29th June
